R.C. Electrical Systems has recently moved to a facility in Wadeville, Gauteng after being located in Benoni for 23 years. The move to Tedstone Road was necessitated for a number of reasons as R.C. Electrical Systems founder Rob van Niekerk explains: “We simply ran out of space on the manufacturing side and our core blowing service facility has been located in Wadeville since we introduced the service in 2014. The desire to operate under one roof, while still being close to our clients, dictated that we move to Wadeville.”
“We have been in the 1 050m² factory since January 2023 and it has made a big difference to the flow of our work, just by having the extra space. We were in the Golden Drive, Benoni factory for 23 years.”
“R.C. Electrical Systems was established in 1987. Initially specialising in electrical automation, the business evolved and entered the foundry industry to manufacture various equipment used in the foundry process. As electrical contractors we manufactured and installed industrial process control systems and motor control centres, both of which continue to be part of our core business.”

“Our knowledge in electrical automation is invaluable for the operation of foundry equipment, most of which is electrically operated in some form.”
“Over the years I have commissioned equipment in many parts of the world, as far afield as Chile, India and USA and these experiences have made me realise what a wonderful country we have. I do believe R.C. Electrical Systems has in a small way contributed to creating hope and sustained employment to many people over the years.”
“After 36 years of working within the foundry industry, we have gained a wealth of expertise in fully understanding all aspects of the foundry requirements – from the day-to-day activity to the overall operations. With this understanding in place, our products are designed by foundrymen for foundrymen.”
“The equipment manufacturing division specialises in servicing the foundry industry with supplying continuous mixing machines, classifier units, core shooters, compaction tables, pneumatic conveying systems, dust collection units, furnace fume extraction units, dust extraction units and sand reclamation systems.”

Core blowing development
“My son Byron has been working in the company since 2004. For a number of years, he learned about the mechanical and electrical aspects of the business. We then decided to increase the scope of the business and opened a separate division, which he manages, to manufacture cores for clients, which are the foundries. In other words, the foundry could outsource their core blowing operations and we would provide them with their required cores. The idea is to provide an extra service and relieve the foundry of any further capital expenditure in this department. Furthermore, we maintain and develop the equipment, also another cost that our client does not have to budget for.”
“Within our core division, we have our own staff manning the operation that includes a 25 litre core blower, a 12 litre core blower, eight amine gassing stations, four CO2 stations, two 100 kilogram batch mixers, two 200 kilogram batch mixers and a one ton continuous mixer.”
“All of this equipment has been manufactured by our fabrication department and remains the property of R.C. Electrical Systems.”
“Equally, our dedicated team are experts in their field and provide breakdown support to our clients with fast turnaround times ensuring exceptional service is offered and minimal downtime is experienced by our clients.”
Cores produced by R.C. Electrical Systems
“Besides manufacturing, installing and core blowing, other services we offer include repairs and servicing, filter cleaning applications, electrical and hydraulic control systems and installation of controls for taphole equipment for the steel industry.”
New service: Production of moulds
“We are also excited to announce that, within the next few months, we will be starting our own moulding line which will allow us to supply moulds directly to the surrounding foundries. Sadly, our country is operating under very difficult economic conditions with many foundries being affected by load shedding. During the power outages many of our clients are unable to produce moulds. We have designed and manufactured a moulding line and have provided exceptionally competitive pricing to supply moulds. This provides the foundries with an opportunity to outsource their moulding without incurring additional/unnecessary costs as well as relieve them of their loss of production during power outages.”
