Ceramic and Alloy Specialists has entered into a sales and distribution agreement with Selko Ateş Tuğla to serve the South African foundry industry. The agreement, which came into effect in June 2024, will in future see Ceramic and Alloy Specialists sell and supply ceramic gating systems and components (ceramic holloware) product range that Selko Ateş Tuğla manufactures and exports worldwide from its base in Bartın Industrial Zone, Turkey.

“Established by Selahattin Kalaycı in 1987 in Bartın, a city in northern Turkey, near the Black Sea, Selko Ateş Tuğla was initially manufacturing only insulation bricks and mortars. In a short time, in line with industry demands, Selko added fireclay fire bricks, high alumina bricks, castables and mortars used in the foundry and melting industries, fireplace barbecues, bread ovens, chimneys and boilers, to its production capabilities,” commented Wouter Retief, Sales Director at Ceramic and Alloy Specialists.

“However, they also developed a range of ceramic gating systems and components (ceramic holloware) for large castings, which are formed by refractory shapes. The product has a high-resistance to penetration by molten metal and is intended for single use in casting systems assemblies during the metal casting process.”

“The range of holloware that we are currently importing is limited to 50mm, 60mm, 70mm and 80mm. Should there be a call for other sizes we can bring in up to 120mm. They come in the shape of tubes, funnels, duck feet and many other shapes. Tubes can come in the form of bent tubes, squashed tubes and segmented tubes, for example. We also import the stopper rod tubes for bottom pour ladles.”

“The above range of products are generally used for large ferrous castings.”

“We have been looking for a supplier for this area of the hot metal industry, as we always have had numerous enquiries.
