Opens a greenfield foundry for the production of aluminium and copper alloys from scrap in Knights, Germiston.
The GeT Metal Group has announced that it has acquired the Eclipse East Foundry and the Standard Foundry property and its assets from Cast Products South Africa. Eclipse is a going concern and the Standard Foundry property was a thriving foundry until Scaw Metals acquired it and closed it. Scaw Metals subsequently disinvested from the foundry operations, which became Cast Products South Africa and is 80% IDC owned.
“We expect to take ownership of Eclipse East Foundry in May or June 2023,” said Ebrahim Khan a Director at GeT Metal Group, the acquiring company.
“Eclipse East Foundry specialises in low alloy steel and high chromium iron mill liners,
manganese crushing wear parts for gyratory crushers and jaw crushers and low alloy steel earthmoving under carriage wear parts, amongst other industrial castings.”
“It has not been operating at anywhere near optimum capacity and there is a need for maintenance, repair and refurbishment throughout the whole plant. We will address these issues once we have taken ownership.”
“We don’t intend to change the structure or the mix of the foundry, as the foundry has become known for. This is a new chapter. The company will be renamed and rebranded GeT Castings, which is the foundry division of the GeT Metals Group.”

“At the moment there is no fixed plan drawn up for the Standard Foundry property. We are looking at repurposing the site and its assets for multiple uses.”
New foundry for the production of aluminium and copper alloys
“We have also recently opened a greenfield non-ferrous foundry in the Germiston area. GeT Alloys (Pty) Ltd is a foundry developed for the production of aluminium and copper alloys from scrap. The facility is located within the Knights industrial area off Shaft Road, Germiston.
“The establishment of the aluminium foundry in Germiston was not just a simple expansion to open another foundry, it was a strategic move, as the company already has a key customer lined up. This new venture demonstrates GeT Metal Group’s commitment to growth and its position as a leading player in the foundry industry.”
About GeT Metals Group
The GeT Metal Group was founded by two emerging and dynamic entrepreneurs, Andrew Bishop and Ebrahim Khan in 2018. GeT Metal Group’s creation was preceded by the establishment of GeT Metal and Waste in 2013 by Andrew Bishop.
“When Andrew established the company when he acquired a single branch operation in Strand, Western Cape his strategy was to develop a branch network to procure industrial metals and recyclables for re-sale to other larger metal buyers or to sell directly to domestic foundries for further processing or to secure export permits to sell to international buyers,” explained Kahn.
“Andrew realised over time that on-selling the feedstock metal that GeT Metal processes to external parties is a lost profit margin opportunity. Converting the metal into further value-added products like ingots, billets and metal castings, created the vertical industrial strategy that adds value that the group now strives to achieve.”
Bishop, a professional engineer, spent over a decade working for the London Underground as an engineer before starting his own business. During his time in the industry, he gained invaluable experience working long hours in challenging engineering environments.

The company has also recently opened a greenfield non-ferrous foundry in the Germiston area after previously acquiring Metlite Alloys
Ebrahim Khan, on the other hand, brings a solid track record of corporate finance expertise to the table, particularly in mergers and acquisitions, which has greatly benefited GeT Metal Group’s expansion strategy. Prior to joining GeT Metal Group, Ebrahim served as the Head of Investment at Wesgro, Deputy General Manager of Hisense, and Investment Director for the Unipalm Investment Holding Group.
Get Steel: Steel billet plant in Atlantis
Since 2018, the GeT Metal Group has been working to build its Steel Foundry, marking the company’s most significant undertaking to date.
“We both believed that we could develop our ideas for the metal processing industry, besides just buying and selling scrap metal. A real opportunity was also available in Atlantis – the Atlantis Forge property. The company had been liquidated in 2010 and we devised a revival plan to breathe new life into the property.”
“We have saved and refurbished whatever plant there was that could suit our needs for initially manufacturing steel billet. Shredders, hammer mills and all the equipment needed for our manufacturing process has either been installed or will be shortly. For example, furnaces are coming from Turkey and are on the water.”
“We are aiming to be operational by August this year and are looking to produce between 6 000 and 7 500 tons a month.”
“Our ultimate aim is to install a rolling mill and become a mini mill. We do not have an operating mini mill in the Western Cape so this will be an advantage.”
“What is of interest to the foundry industry is that we have also put in an extraction plant that will sort the metal from the sand and then be used as scrap feedstock.”
“We have shown resilience and built the operating platform aggressively in the last few years. The Atlantis site, 50km north of Cape Town, spans 40 000m² and the company is known as GeT Steel. This site also happens to be one of the few industrial properties in the Western Cape with more than 9MW of guaranteed power supply. We will be processing all forms of steel scrap and on-selling to foundries.”
GeT Alloys
“Our next acquisition was Metlite Alloys and we changed the name to GeT Alloys and the company forms part of the GeT Metal Group. We acquired Metlite Alloys from Insimbi Industrial Holdings a JSE Listed company in September 2020.”
“Metlite Alloys was founded in 1986 and is one of South Africa’s oldest and leading secondary aluminium ingot producers. Since GeT Alloys has taken ownership, production has been reinstated to former years, with plant changes and upgrades to exceed previous production outputs. The management of GeT Alloys have committed capital and expertise to scale the business as one of the most competitive aluminium foundries in South Africa.”
More recently, the group acquired Pex Foundry in December 2021 and rebranded it to GeT Castings
“Our aluminium operations are a great blueprint in terms of creating the supply relationship between GeT Metal and Waste and the foundry/conversion leg of the business model with GeT Alloys. GeT Alloys is in the process to expand our output with the installation of new state of the art furnaces fed by a fuel oil to fire the melting process.”
GeT Castings
“More recently, we acquired Pex Foundry in December 2021 and we rebranded it to GeT Castings. Remarkably, the entire process, from initiating conversations to signing the executed version of the term sheet, took less than 10 days.”
“GeT Castings is a small jobbing foundry that caters to the end product market, casting various types of metal, both ferrous and non-ferrous. Following the acquisition, the GeT Metal Group recalled nearly two-thirds of the former staff, ensuring their return to work.”
“The company takes pride in this accomplishment and aims to replicate a similar success with the upcoming Eclipse East Foundry acquisition.”
“We want to build the group into a formidable industrial platform with manufacturing and logistical assets to support the growth of the business. We have a fleet of super link trucks, back tipper trucks, and crane trucks, fitted with scrap metal grabs for quick loading or clearing nationwide.”
