Innov-X Africa’s scanning, sample preparation and analysis equipment for metals and ores achieving results

International elemental analysis company Innov-X Africa have achieved impressive results in recent months with their range of scanning, sample preparation and analysis equipment used in the mining and metals industries.

“Companies are looking for solutions for fast and accurate analysis of all types of metals, ores and alloys across a range of industries whether it is at the beginning of the chain or once processing has taken place. They need equipment that enables samples of varying size and material type, ferrous and non-ferrous, and organic to be prepared and analysed precisely with no loss of characteristics or imperfections. They need equipment that delivers powerful elemental analysis with outstanding ease of use in a compact footprint or from a hand-held situation with in-line process control,” explained Craig Bateman from Innov-X Africa.

“We represent a number of international companies that provide us with solutions for many industries. Each sample preparation step requires controls to be in place; from sample submittal, through preparation and return to disposal of samples and we can offer non-destructive technology that is either used in a laboratory situation or on-site real time element analysis.”

Innov-X-Africa represents technology solutions providers including Evident (formerly known as Olympus), Belec, a manufacturer of optical emission spectrometers for metal analysis, Geotek Ltd. (UK), a company that specialises in high-resolution, non-destructive analysis of geological cores and more recently signed up with an Australian company Block10, a manufacturer of portable sample preparation equipment. The suite, consisting of a crusher, mill and accompanying press allow for rapid, high-quality and portable processing of samples for geochemical or mineralogical analysis.”

“With an increasing demand for portable X-ray fluorescent (XRF) instruments, owing to more multi-element analysis being conducted in mining, we promote the Vanta XRF, BoxScan and detectORE.”

“Another big seller of ours is the Belec In-Spect optical emission spectrometer. In the metal producing and processing industries, the exact determination of the alloying elements is becoming more and more important. The alloy composition guarantees the properties of the corresponding material. When these compositions have to be measured during the melting process in a foundry, speed, precision and reliability are essential.”

“The Belec In-Spect and Optron units are a compact stationary spectrometer that has recently been completely redesigned. The table-top instrument combines most of the features of a complex laboratory instrument in a compact format. It is typically used in the classic laboratory situation in foundries.”

“We have had a very busy year that started off with the company exhibiting at the African Mining Indaba in Cape Town in February. This led us to other exhibitions around the country and abroad and in the month of September we exhibited at Electra Mining, Africa Aerospace and Defence, Africa Down Under, Society of Economic Geologies and Jewellex, all yielding very good results for us.”

“One of the more interesting products that we market, sell and maintain throughout a dedicated service centre are the Vanta handheld XRF analysers Vanta Max and Vanta Core. They are now being utilised in many different industries for immediate on-site elemental analysis. For example, in the automotive industry they play a major role in the recycling of automotive catalysts. Without special equipment, it’s impossible to quickly determine the amount of PGMs in automotive catalysts – causing a roadblock to the PGM recovery process. This is where X-ray fluorescence (XRF) testing comes in. XRF is a proven analytical method used in the recovery of automotive catalysts.”

“Many recyclers rely on portable XRF devices for a fast and simple car catalyst analysis as well as scrap metal. Our Vanta handheld XRF analyser can provide the amounts of platinum, rhodium, and palladium in catalyst in seconds.”

“With its lightweight, handheld design and durable construction, the Vanta handheld XRF analyser is a more affordable tool for elemental analysis and identification of alloys and metals in scrap recycling, QA/QC, PMI (Positive Material Identification) and jewellery/precious metals. Finally, a powerful handheld XRF is within the reach of customers with specific budgets requirements.”
