Five years ago, BMW installed a TF 5700, at the time the largest die casting machine in Europe. The machine enabled the redesign of a crash-resistant battery housing, transforming a previous 16-piece assembly into a single, lightweight aluminium part. This achievement reduced weight, simplified production, and enhanced safety, demonstrating the precision and power that ItalPresseGauss machines can provide.
ItalpresseGauss introduced the TF toggle-free two-platen machine concept in 2005 after developing it fully in-house, including the closing unit. Toggle-free (TF) machines generate the closing force hydraulically, whereas those with toggle do this mechanically. This means the toggle-free machine only needs two platens instead of three, which means a smaller footprint.

A new chapter with the TFs 5200
On January 13th 2026, ItalPresseGauss announced it has been commissioned to supply a TFs 5200 die casting machine to BMW, a machine engineered to deliver high-efficiency and exceptional precision for large, complex structural components. The TFs 5200 is part of the new “Toggle-Free Smart Series” of machines presented by ItalPresseGauss.
The TFs 5200 is adapted to be installed on the existing foundations of a machine from another HPDC equipment supplier, which had been in operation but was recently taken out of production. ItalPresseGauss engineering tailored the new machine to fit the existing infrastructure with minimised impact and simpler installation. This strategy helps reduce downtime while maximising efficiency.
The machine is engineered to deliver high efficiency and exceptional precision for large, complex structural components. The TFs 5200 offers high closing forces in a compact footprint, allowing maximum productivity without sacrificing factory space. The SC4 shot-end system, provides precise injection control to minimise scrap and maintain part quality. The ECOFIT technology provides lower energy consumption and CO₂ emissions, supporting BMW’s sustainability goals.
