The launch of the world’s first 16 000 ton press in series production was a significant milestone for the automotive industry, especially for the electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng who have just launched its AI vehicle the P7+. Castings SA reported on the launch die casting press earlier this year – see https://castingssa.com/lk-dreampress-16-000-ton-die-casting-machine-unveiled
With the presentation of the new P7+ at the Paris Motor Show in 2024, Xpeng demonstrated how innovative manufacturing technologies can be used to produce vehicles even more efficiently and cost-effectively.
Development of the world’s largest die casting machine
The use of giga/megacasting, which has already been used in the Xpeng G6 SUV since 2022, has enabled Xpeng to optimise production processes. The collaboration with Guangdong Hongtu to develop larger die casting machines is a strategic step for Xpeng to further expand its production capabilities and capacities. Guangdong Hongtu engages in the development, design, production and sales of precision aluminium alloy die casting parts for automobiles, communication equipment, escalator grades and electromechanical.
P7+ is produced with the world’s largest giga/mega press
The fact that the P7+ is now being produced on the world’s largest giga/mega press demonstrates Xpeng’s commitment to technological innovation and efficiency. It remains exciting to see how these developments will impact the electric vehicle market and how and to what extent large structural components will be produced in the future.
When Xpeng Motors, a Chinese hi-tech car company officially launched the P7+ in China, it introduced the world’s first AI-defined vehicle, the company said. The P7+ delivers quality with advanced AI-driven technology, elevating intelligent driving and smart cockpit experiences through Xpeng’s cutting-edge AI architecture. This launch underscores Xpeng’s commitment to pioneering AI-defined mobility on a global scale.
At the launch event, Xpeng Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said: “In traditional cars, being premium has often been defined by design and features, but in the era of AI-defined vehicles, true premium quality is inseparable from intelligent technology.” He added that Xpeng’s goal is to elevate the driving experience by making advanced AI-defined mobility technology standard in every vehicle. This commitment reflects Xpeng’s dedication to understanding and meeting the needs of today’s drivers.
